The Bartow Culinary Academy, is a nationally accredited model academy, which provides the opportunity to learn culinary fundamentals in taste, presentation and cooking technique. It will allow for experience in the kitchen as well as all aspects of cost control, safety and sanitation, nutrition, and kitchen management. Working at a school-based catering/restaurant setting provides many learning opportunities. Students are involved in catering experiences in school and around the county, providing them with real-world experiences in the culinary industry.

This pre-academy will prepare students for Winter Haven High School or Lake Region High School's respective Culinary Academies. It will also prepare students for Winter Haven High School's Academy of Hospitality and Tourism.

The Hospitality Academy, offers courses in culinary arts for students in 7th - 12th grade. Through the academy students gain knowledge in all aspects of culinary hospitality including health / sanitation basics through final presentation. Students can earn the SafeServe certification along with other areas of interest and have the opportunity to intern at some of the top local attractions including Streamsong and Legoland. The Marketing Academy provides opportunities for our students who have expressed an interest in developing business and technology skills through computer application classes. This program will allow students to gain knowledge and the ability to use business persuasion in branding a product.

Do you want to learn about different cuisines, the hospitality industry, and culinary standards? Your journey begins here. After successfully completing this program, students will be able to: explore career paths in food production, management and service, demonstrate menu planning based on standard recipes, prepare a variety of food products using appropriate procedures. Students will use and maintain commercial food production equipment. Culinary students are encouraged to join LG'S's national award winning FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter. Members develop leadership skills while participating in community service and competitive events.

The Seminole Pre-Culinary Academy, will prepare students for careers in the area of culinary arts and hospitality. In the sixth grade, students are provided a basic understanding of Family and Consumer Sciences as they engage in activities related to career research/planning, family and children, and life management skills. Level 2 students will take a look at the hospitality industry by exploring food and beverage, lodging, travel, tourism, and recreation. These students will also begin to focus on skills directly related to culinary arts including basic kitchen equipment, following recipes, and food safety/preparation.

Family and Consumer Science (FACS) and Career Discovery This course is for 6th grade students. In FACS students will learn about life skills, how to communicate with others, make a career plan, children and parenting, management Skills, clothing choices and nutrition. For Careers Discovery we will be learning specifically about 5 different careers, Food Stylist, Event planner, Interior designer, Chef and a Restaurateur, Childcare Provider and Fashion Designer. Hospitality and Tourism and Fundaments of Culinary Careers. This course is for 7th grade students. For Hospitality we study the 5 sections of this industry Food and Beverage, Lodging, Travel, Tourism and Recreation.

Students learn how to work in a commercial kitchen with real world experiences. Students will also learn and perform front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house duties, management skills. Students will prepare quality food products and present them creatively; demonstrate safe, sanitary work procedures; understand food science principles related to cooking and baking; and utilize nutrition concepts when planning meals/menus. Students research career opportunities in professional cooking/baking; follow guidelines on food selection, purchasing, and storage; and use communication skills. Students will prepare various meals and food products including those for individuals with various nutritional needs and/or dietary restrictions. Additionally, students have an opportunity to earn ServSafe Management and/or ProStart certifications. Students can also save thousands of dollars through an articulation with Johnson and Wales University.
