George Jenkins Academy of Culinary Arts Overview
Do you have a passion for food? Is your favorite channel the Food Network? If so, you should apply to the culinary academy at George Jenkins High School.
Entering the George Jenkins Academy of Culinary Arts will provide the opportunity to learn culinary fundamentals in taste, presentation and cooking technique. It will allow for experience in the kitchen as well as all aspects of cost control, safety and sanitation, nutrition and kitchen management. Working at a school based catering/restaurant setting provides many learning experiences.
George Jenkins Academy of Culinary Arts students have the opportunity to earn the ProStart Certification - which is sponsored by the National Restaurant and Lodging Association - as well as certification in SafeStaff and ServSafe. SafeStaff is an employee food handler training required by all employees. ServSafe is a management certification.
Competition is an exciting way to get involved. ProStart and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) both offer competitive events. These could provide the opportunity to travel nationwide to compete in culinary events.
