Intermodal Academy Overview
Polk County School Board and Fort Meade Middle Senior High School have joined with CSX Transportation to create the Fort Meade Intermodal Academy.
Intermodal logistics involves the transportation of freight in an intermodal container or vehicle, using multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck), without any handling of the freight itself when changing modes. The method reduces cargo handling, and so improves security, reduces damage and loss, and allows freight to be transported faster.
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to take the test for certification through American Society for Transportation and Logistics as a Global Logistic Associate.
Work Place Essentials, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Warehouse Management, Computer Systems, Safety Awareness and Quality Assurance. In addition students will receive training on OSHA 10 standards. These certifications make students eligible for entry level positions.
