An Academy is very different from a regular high school path because it has more hands-on opportunities and equipment. An academy is also a better choice because it begins teaching you the fundamentals of your area of interest and then you work through more advanced individual learning units. The teachers in the academy have also had hands-on experience with engineering and are fully prepared to help you understand any problems you may have. In the process of being an academy student my attendance has maintained which, in turn, reflects in my grades.

I began the Engineering Academy in 10th grade thinking it was just an easy class. Throughout that first year I started to enjoy working with engineering equipment and understood the work that was being done everyday. As soon as I completed my first year of Engineering Tech 1, I knew that Electrical Engineering was what I wanted to do. Problem solving and designing projects is what I love to do. My goal of becoming an Electrical Engineer has not changed and I am moving in the right direction to realize my goal thanks to the Academy. The Academy at Ridge Community is, by far, better than just any high school path.

Engineering Technology Career Academy Overview

The Engineering Academy seeks to expose students to a wide variety of technical areas within the engineering technology career field. The program features AMATROL Integrated Technology concepts that introduce students to an array of engineering concepts. Students are able to take part in project-based learning assignments that explore Hydroponics, Solar energy, and Hover Craft Technology.
