TLC Academy Overview
If you are creative, motivated, enjoy working with children, like being a leader and are interested in the exciting field of early childhood education, TLC Academy is the program for you.
TLC classes open the door to the following career opportunities:
- Preschool/Early Childhood Teacher
- Childcare Center Director/Owner
- Pediatric Nurse
- Child Psychologist
- Social Worker
- Speech Therapist
- Children’s Librarian or Author
Through an agreement with Polk State College, Academy students will be eligible for up to 6 hours of college credit for PSC’s Early Childhood Education & Management degree.
Academy students have the opportunity to complete the mandated 40 hours of Department of Children and Families Child Care Training. They will also complete the online Literacy Birth through Age Three module.
First Aid & Infant/Child CPR Training & Certification will provide students with certifications necessary for working with children.
Enrollment in the TLC Academy provides job placement opportunities in area child care facilities.
Participate in FCCLA
TLC students are encouraged to join Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Members develop leadership skills, build character, prepare for careers, learn to think both critically and creatively, and work cooperatively with other students involved in the club. Students compete in events at the district, state and national levels while attending conferences and special events with students from around the district and nation.
